Seventh day.
First stop of the day: Adare, County Limerick. Characterized by the many thatched cottages, it’s considered as assets of the government. We go near the castle, then we buy something at the Heritage Centre, where you can find the inevitable sheep and all sorts of Irish souvenirs, more or less kitsch. Not only that: being a tourist information center, you can find all kinds of brochures and maps of the area, free or not.
Settimo giorno.
Prima tappa della giornata: Adare, contea di Limerick. Caratterizzato dai tanti cottages con tetto in paglia, è considerato patrimonio del governo. Due passi vicino al castello, poi due acquisti all’Heritage Centre, dove oltre all’immancabile pecorella si possono trovare tutti i tipi di souvenirs irlandesi, più o meno kitch. Non solo: essendo un centro di informazioni turistiche, è possibile trovare tutti i tipi di depliant e cartine della zona, sia gratis che a pagamento.
Then we go to the Bunratty Folk Park (15 € per person). In addition to Bunratty Castle, completely open to guided tours inside and very nice, in the park there’s an old Irish village, with a faithful reconstruction of the school, the doctor’s house, town house, mill, farm, pubs and so on. You can get an idea of what life was like in Ireland in 1800 in less than two hours of visit. I recommend it, I loved it.
Poi via, verso il Bunratty Folk Park (15 euro a testa). Oltre al Bunratty Castle, completamente visitabile all’interno e decisamente bello, nel parco è presente un vecchio villaggio irlandese, una ricostruzione fedelissima con tanto di scuola, casa del medico, casa borghese, mulino, fattoria, pub e via dicendo. Ci si può fare un’idea di come fosse la vita nell’Irlanda dell’800 in meno di due ore di visita. Ve lo consiglio, a me è piaciuto tanto.

While we try to get there, however, we lose a little bit… and what happens when you lose a little? You find other wonderful places, of course. There was an incredible wind, we were just at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, on the hills near the cliffs.
Dopo pranzo ci avviamo, entusiasti, verso l’attrazione irlandese per eccellenza: le stupefacenti Cliffs of Moher, nella contea di Clare!
Mentre cerchiamo di arrivarci, però, ci perdiamo un pochettino… e cosa succede quando ci si perde un po’? Che si trovano altri angoli meravigliosi, ovviamente. Tirava un vento incredibile, in fondo eravamo proprio sull’Oceano Atlantico, sulle colline vicino alle scogliere.

When we finally found the parking of the Cliffs of Moher… we go straight! But simply because parking there costed 8 euro. We went on for about 300 meters and left it, as others have done, on the edge of the road. I advise you not to park it where everybody goes and to wear a hooded raincoat, because the wind here can be very, very loud and annoying. The entrance to the highest cliffs in Europe (214 meters in the highest point for a length of 8 km) costs € 6, but I can’t tell you why we entered free, perhaps because it was the week culture, we didn’t understand it.
Quando finalmente abbiamo trovato il parcheggio delle Cliffs of Moher… abbiamo tirato dritto! Ma semplicemente perché chiedevano 8 euro per lasciare lì macchina. Noi siamo andati avanti per circa 300 metri e l’abbiamo lasciata, come hanno fatto altri con la nostra stessa idea, sul bordo della strada. Vi consiglio quindi di non parcheggiarla dove va la massa di gente e di indossare un k-way con cappuccio, perché il vento lì può essere molto ma molto forte e fastidioso. L’ingresso all’area delle scogliere più alte d’Europa (214 metri nel punto più alto, per una lunghezza di 8 km) costa 6 euro, ma non so dirvi il perché noi quel giorno siamo entrati gratis, forse perché era la settimana della cultura, non l’abbiamo ben capito.
